Innovation Lead

This role will identify and manage opportunities for the industrial and commercial exploitation of research focused on creating meaningful outcomes and significant regional economic impact.

  • Contract – full-time, permanent
  • Salary up to £40,000 depending on qualifications and/or experience
  • Based at the Innovation Centre, Queen’s Road, Belfast (hybrid working arrangement available)
  • Reporting to the Director of Strategic Business Development

Responsibilities

  • To identify, plan and implement strategic engagements with existing tenants and partners. This will entail the establishment of new relationships and brokering interactions between industry and academic partners.
  • Devise strategies and develop opportunities and consortia to deepen Collaborative R&D engagement in key clusters.
  • Proactively develop strategies and prepositions to identify new revenue opportunities.
  • Design and deliver impactful activities to meet or exceed stakeholders’ research and innovation objectives and defined metrics.
  • Educating tenants, partners, and broader stakeholders on the value of research, innovation, and the wider Open Innovation projects at Catalyst.
  • Support the identification and development of new opportunities in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship and Scaling teams to support the engagement on the Catalyst Belfast campus.
  • Representing the Catalyst Open Innovation team at events, workshops, and meetings with partners
  • To perform extensive market analysis to explore development opportunities for the research being undertaken within Catalyst and its innovation network.
  • To develop new business models, mechanisms, and contracts to ensure the rapid and smooth transfer of new Innovation knowledge and expertise to industry and/or relevant agencies.
  • Work with the marketing team to ensure all marketing collateral and PR activities is relevant to Catalyst’s Open Innovation network.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties which fall within the remit of this role.

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience working in an innovative and entrepreneurial environment
  • Demonstrable track record in fostering and managing strategic research and Innovation partnerships and engagements between industry, universities, research institutions and government departments and agencies.
  • Strong customer focus with the ability to use initiative and think creatively to identify and develop effective corporate relationships and/or opportunities to grow revenue.
  • Able to effectively communicate complex ideas and stakeholder needs into clear and easily interpretable briefs which are accessible to different audiences
  • Excellent business networking skills
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • A proven team player

Desirable Criteria

  • Degree qualification
  • Experience of Health and Life Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing and Carbon NetZero sectors

Special Requirements

  • Proof of right to work in the UK
  • On occasions to work evenings and weekends for events
  • Full current driving licence (valid in the UK) and access to a car or access to a form of transport which will permit the applicant to carry out the duties of the post in full.
